 -

Such a fun and busy week!

I am looking for 2 people who would like to join our class to go to Morse High School on March 24th to a Kinderconzert. Time commitment is approximately 9 am to 10:30. Send me an email if interested. If I get too many requests I will draw names from a hat! Thanks for your consideration.

We have been reading many Dr. Seuss books and celebrating him as a reader and illustrator. Iconic for us all! Read Across America week was full of fun celebrations ending with book character dress up day. Wow, the kids LOVE being at school all dressed up!

The Chickadee Reading program also kicked off this week. We will have guest readers from around the school sharing the Chickadee nominated books that are up for a vote this year. We will be able to cast our own votes here at WCS and see how we stack up against the rest of the state. We sure are reading up a storm here this week!

Assessments have eaten up a majority of our time this week. I am so excited to share the results with you~

Conference times are opening today for our parent/teacher conferences on March 27th. I can't wait to meet with you all and talk about how kindergarten is going.

Wow! Last day of February!!! Happy March tomorrow (Rabbit! Rabbit!)

Hoping everyone had a fun February Vacation! We have had a VERY busy week since coming back from that break. The trimester is ending in a couple of weeks and it will be time to meet again at parent/teacher conferences~keep an eye out for the sign-up times for that day. I can't wait to share with you all of the growth your students have made since the last time we chatted. I'm so proud of them!

We have been discussing dental health and the importance of taking care of our teeth. Also, much speculation about what the Tooth Fairy does with all of those teeth! I'm amazed that some of the students got upwards of $500.00 from her! Things have definitely changed since I was a wee lass!

We finished our Go2Science mission in French Polynesia and will dive into the data next week to determine whether our hypothesis is true or false. We have one more mission this school year and that will be to Borneo to learn about biodiversity. Stay tuned!

Please check that your child has an extra set of dry clothes here and also that their p.e. shoes still fit! Wow we are having growth spurts!!!

March 3-7 -Read Across America Festivities (See attached schedule)

March 14- No School- Professional Development Day

March 24- Kinderconcert @ Morse (Details to come)

Good-Bye, January!!!! Hello February! (Rabbit...Rabbit- say that to your children first thing in the morning and they will be so impressed that you know our little code for celebrating the 1st day of a new month)! Happy Groundhog Day on Saturday...Come on Phil~Do your stuff!

We have been learning so much about French Polynesia, sharks, and reef health with our Go2Science mission! We have 2 weeks left to test our hypothesis.  If you are on Facebook you can check out the Go2Science page to keep up to date with what we have been working on.

During writing time we are working on adding to sentence stems and talking about proper nouns. They are learning to add details to their pictures to make their writing even more exciting!

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, making pictures to match the number written, addition and subtraction practice, counting by 5s and 10s, working with probability through dice games, reading and creating graphs.  Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, weather observations, tallies, coins, patterns, and tracking the number of days we have been in school and days of the week.

We are learning about the Woolwich Way! The Woolwich Way is made up of 6 qualities that will help us to be the best we can be! (Courtesy- I can use good manners, Compassion-I can help others, Respect- I can treat others kindly, Honesty-I can tell the truth, Responsibility- I can take care of myself and my stuff, Quality- I can do my best even when things are hard)

Dear Families,

We have read a great many versions of the Gingerbread Man (boy, girl, baby, etc.) and are enjoying the similarities and differences in the outcome of the gingerbread being.  Talking about the different characters and settings has also been part of this process. You had a gingerbread project come home this week. The ones that have come in are simply delightful! If you haven't completed the project, no worries! Send your Gingerbread person in if/when you do!

We have been learning so much about French Polynesia and reef health/shark health with our newest Go2Science mission! Our hypothesis for this adventure is: "There are more sharks around healthy coral reefs." If you are on Facebook you can check out the Go2Science page to keep up to date with what we have been working on.

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, making pictures to match the number written, addition and subtraction practice, telling and acting out number stories, counting by 10s,  subitizing practice, and reading graphs.  Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, weather observations, ten frames, tallies, money, patterns, solving addition problems, and tracking the number of days we have been in school.
