Please notice that your student's report card has come home today! Let me know if you have any questions in terms of scoring. Everything inside the envelope is for you to keep, but please return the envelope for the next report card!

We have been having so much fun learning about the solar system this week! We know what makes day and night and that the sun is our closest star. How exciting!

Books Read: Poor Pluto, The Solar System, The Sun: Our Nearest Star, Day and Night, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Reading workshop is going very well. We are engaging in daily practice of reading books at our level as well as exploring picture books that we might not be able to read yet, but that teach us about non-fiction topics of interest and stories that we can follow through pictures- even if we can't read the print.

In math we are working with teen numbers, playing games with partners, formation of numbers, making pictures to match the number written, addition and subtraction practice and continuing our calendar routines. Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, weather observations, tracking the number of days we have been in school and days of the week.

As the weather is cooling down, remember we go outside on days above 10 degrees and as long as it isn't rain or ice. Fresh air is so important and I ask you to help me by sending your child with warm clothing and to make sure they have an extra set of clothing in case of emergency.

We are learning about the Woolwich Way! The Woolwich Way is made up of 6 qualities that will help us to be the best we can be! (Courtesy- I can use good manners, Compassion-I can help others, Respect- I can treat others kindly, Honesty-I can tell the truth, Responsibility- I can take care of myself and my stuff, Quality- I can do my best even when things are hard)

Dear Families,

Rabbit! Rabbit! Ask your child what it means if you are unsure!

PLEASE remember that we are very busy at school and the sharing of toys, jewelry, hair accessories, and cash should not be something we are doing at school. It is confusing and distracting. Thank you!

My Son, Patrick

Thank you Veterans!

I hope you all had a fun Halloween! Unfortunately, some little ghoul gave me a whole bunch of germs for trick-or-treat. I'm starting to feel a little better, though!

A turkey project has come home with your child this week- wrapped as a scroll. Have fun creating together and please send it back in when finished~

A bit of help that I need... please assist your child by making sure there are no toys or other distractions in their backpacks or pockets. We have had many instances of students "giving, trading, sharing, lending" items and we honestly don't have the time for those distractions in our day. I really need your help with this and I thank you in advance.

Hello Families!
Our caterpillars----chrysalis----butterfly cycle is finishing up! We have released 4 monarch butterflies into the world so they can start that long migration to Mexico! Gotta go-Gotta go- Gotta go to Mexico! It has been an amazing length of time to make daily observations and to await their arrival! Bye Bye, Butterflies!

The Woolwich Fire Department and EMTs came to school today to talk about fire safety. We got to see the fire truck and we also made a very yummy fire truck snack!

We are steadily working our way through our Alphabet Bootcamp. 26 letters in 26 days. You have noticed their headbands coming home and the little readers that go along with the letters practiced. Often time we run out of time to add color and details to these readers. Feel free to have your student color and read these books to you. Maybe keep them all in one place and read them at night along with your nightly read aloud. Students will gain great independence when practicing books they are able to read.

In math we are getting to know numbers 0-10, sorting, discussing a graph, using math manipulatives, 10 frames,  finger counting, working with shapes and continuing our calendar routines.

We are learning about the Woolwich Way! The Woolwich Way is made up of 6 qualities that will help us to be the best we can be! The Very Hungry Caterpillar sequencing game

There is a September reading Bingo board coming home today. This is meant for fun and interest. It is not an expectation to be turned in when finished, just a nice challenge. I know September is almost over, so have fun with it and I will be sending home an October one soon enoiugh!

In science we continue to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly. We have no caterpillars still munching and all in chrysalis. We can release them for their flight to Mexico before the cold weather sets in! We have learned so much about the caterpillar life cycle! Next week we will begin learning about apples and their life cycle.

We are also working through our Go2Science mission about Blue Morpho Butterflies. We are in search of evidence for our hypothesis: "Blue Morpho Butterflies only occur in or around rainforests." We have "travelled" (virtually) to Panama with our friends, Beth and Curtis, to test our hypothesis as well as to learn a whole lot about the rainforest biome itself.

Books: Cont. re-reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar,  enjoying LOTS of other Eric Carle books, Gotta Go! Gotta Go! (a book about a little caterpillar and her journey), and some fun ABC books. We are also using our book boxes daily and developing good reading skills.

In math we are getting to know numbers 0-10, sorting, discussing a graph, using math manipulatives, using 5 frames, practicing with quick looks at collections of dots, finger counting, working with shapes and continuing our calendar routines.

We are still learning about the Woolwich Way! The Woolwich Way is made up of 6 qualities that will help us to be the best we can be! Dear Families,

Thank you so much for being patient with me this first week of school! It has been incredibly hot and my main goal has been making sure your child is hydrated, cooler, and happy.

It has been a very busy week. We are continuing our procedures and community building. We have enjoyed going to the different specials classes and meeting many new faces and doing fun activities.

Specials are: Monday-Library, Tuesday-Art, Wednesday-Guidance, Thursday-Music, Friday- P.E.

Thank you for all of your emails and continual patience with me this week. It is a lot to keep these little ones safe and happy and if somehow I have left you with more questions, please reach out to me and let me know. I am trying!

Books Read: A variety of Pete the Cat stories, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, and Franklin's First Day of School.

In math we are getting to know numbers, introducing attributes of shapes, sorting, graphing birthdays, and our calendar routines. Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, weather observation, and the days  of the week.

Many reading and writing assessments have taken place these first few days of school. We will begin a more structured approach to reading and writing beginning soon.

We have begun to be scientists and use our observation skills to watch caterpillars grow-and grow-and grow! Most of them are still in the very hungry stage!

Weekly newsletter on a Tuesday???

Hello!

Yes, this is the newsletter for the week. Early for 2 reasons.

1. Art Show and STEAM night here @ WCS this Thursday.

Lots of stuff going on Thursday from 5-7. Fun for the whole family. Along with the art show, we will have activities in the gym, cafeteria, and out on the playground. In the cafeteria, we will have tin foil boat making, Lego Pictionary, a Slime making station, Toothpick marshmallow 3-D structures, and plankton races. In the gym will be paper airplane making, a mirror drawing challenge, a microscope station, Lego simple machine making, and a K'nex and Zometool building station. Outside we will have sidewalk chalk, Alka-Seltzer rockets, Baking soda volcanoes, Coke and Mentos explosions, and Bubbles in the field! We will also have fun raffles going on in the front hallway to help pay for all the consumables used during the night.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^HOW FUN^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

2. I will have a substitute on both Thursday and Friday as Mrs. Plummer and I prepare to meet our next year's kindergarten students.

Time is getting short and my heart is starting to get heavy. Only 25 school days are left and I'm SO not ready to say goodbye. These small people are the best and make my heart smile~

Enjoy the rest of your week and have a wonderful weekend!

What a lovely week of weather this has been! Let's hope it continues. Playing outside without jackets has become our new favorite thing!

Evelyn has shared her tadpoles with us and I'm sure I have not ever seen tadpoles this large. They are so interesting and fun to observe!

Sending a very Happy Mother's Day to all of you Moms out there! I hope your day is special~

We have finished our third and final mission with Go-2 Science. Beth and Curtis are in Thailand to study tigers. We have collected all of the evidence for this mission and now we are tasked with analyzing it and deciding if our hypothesis is true or false. Is there a resident population of tigers living in HKK or not? We will let you know what we think next week!

We are continuing to practice reading like we are talking instead of word by word and making those sight words more automatic so we don't trip over them when reading our stories.  We also have read many books about animals that hatch from an egg and books about our 5 senses. We are amazing readers!

In writing we have been focused on writing prompts about farm animals, eggs, and our Go2Science mission. We have had too many friends absent for us to begin the How-To unit, so we will head there next week.

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, addition and subtraction practice, graphing pets, counting and number recognition through graphing , solving number problems, and continuing our calendar routines. Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, weather observations, tracking the number of days we have been in school, patterned 10 frames, tally marks, money, and days of the week.

Upcoming Events:

May 18 & 19 WE DO HAVE SCHOOL-there was an administrative change for this and kindergarten WILL be in school those days

What fun to finally be able to be dancing in the sunshine! Now for some heat?

This week has been filled with our weather unit we have started in science. We are learning all about different kinds of weather we have and why we experience it. Lot's of multi-syllable vocabulary words are involved!

Poem In Your Pocket Day was Thursday and we gathered tokens for reading our poems to various people throughout the building. Ask how many tokens your child gathered yesterday!

We continued our third and final mission with Go-2 Science. Beth and Curtis are in Thailand to study tigers. We are learning so much about so much!!! This week we collected more evidence to help with our hypothesis. We even got to watch as Beth and Curtis took part in an elephant parade and show. Ask your student what a mahout is and if they would like to be one!

We are continuing to practice reading like we are talking instead of word by word and making those sight words more automatic so we don't trip over them when reading our stories.  We also have read many spring books as well as weather books. We are becoming amazing readers!

In writing we are working on a piece about April Vacation and will edit this final narrative writing piece. Next week we will begin our How-To writing unit. This year is moving too fast for me~

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, addition and subtraction practice, graphing pets, counting and number recognition through graphing , solving number problems, and continuing our calendar routines. What a WONDERFUL week it has been in Kindergarten!!!

Thank you for all of the cuteness you made happen at our concert~they were all so excited and nervous and proud. Your willingness to make that happen is what I love about what I do!

We have started our next (and final) mission with Go2Science. We have landed in Thailand to study tigers. The hypothesis for this mission is; "There is a resident population in Huai Kha Khaeng (HKK) Wildlife Sanctuary in Thailand". Some of the evidence we will be collecting is tracks, prey, babies, scratch marks, poop, spray, and other things (like hearing without seeing).

We continued to work through  our reading, writing, and math goals.

We ate through the rainbow this week as the entire school ate such healthy and marvelous snacks provided by our PTA~(they are fantastic). Some of your students are experts at eating through the rainbow!

Also, as the weather shifted this week, it has been difficult to be inside. I hope you all have a splendid vacation full of fun and family! Enjoy~~~

Hello All!

It has been such a fun and topsy-turvy week here! Between the weather and all of the festivities, we have been busy and engaged in some great learning!

A couple of housekeeping things...

Please make sure your child has an extra set of dry clothes to keep here. The snow/melting/freezing/wetness makes it very likely we will get our clothes wet and no one enjoys sitting in wet clothes. Also, a pair of extra shoes so we aren't stomping around in uncomfortable footwear. We go outside twice a day and while there is any snow at all, it is a great idea for snow pants, boots, and all other outside gear~winter is far from over!

Our kindergarten screening for next year's class will take place in May.  That impacts our current class schedule. A big heads up that KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ONLY will not have school in May 18 & May 19.  If you know of a child who is going to be eligible to start kindergarten this fall, please contact the front office to be signed up!

Upcoming Events:

March 17- No School- Professional Development Day

March 23- Parent/Teacher Conferences~Both 23rd and 24th are 1/2 days of school!

April 17-21- April Vacation

May 18 & 19- No Kindergarten-Only kindergarten students will not have school.

Hi! I am writing a day early because I won't be here tomorrow.

We have had such a wonderful week learning about manatees, reading, writing, becoming better mathematicians, and also having tons of fun playing in the snow! All is very good!
We completed our gingerbread unit with a bit of a gingerbread snack (for those who can) and a special snack (for those friends who couldn't share them). Thank you Clara for your family's thoughtfulness!

Coming up...the week before vacation...

Kindergarten is going to attempt to collect 100 non-perishable food items before February vacation. We are incredibly excited to be able to do this community service project again. If you are able, please consider donating food for this drive. Thank you~

We have been learning so much about Florida and manatees with our Go2Science mission! We have 2 weeks left to test our hypothesis.  If you are on Facebook you can check out the Go2Science page to keep up to date with what we have been working on. We also decided to adopt a manatee and give support to their health and information to the public about the importance of their existence. I have made him our "class pet" and have told the students I would pass along the information to you in case they were able to adopt a manatee at home. Check out the link if you are interested!
https://www.savethemanatee.org/how-to-help/adopt-a-manatee/#adoptees

During writing time they are spending their time editing previous work. They are learning to add details and label pictures to make their writing more interesting to the reader.

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, making pictures to match the number written, addition and subtraction practice, counting by 5s and 10s, working with probability through dice games, reading and creating graphs.  Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, weather observations, tallies, coins, patterns, and tracking the number of days we have been in school and days of the week.

If you would like to send in Kleenex or Clorox wipes, we are quickly running out! Thank you!

Dear Families,

We have read a great many versions of the Gingerbread Man (boy, girl, baby, etc.) and are enjoying the similarities and differences in the outcome of the gingerbread being.  Talk about the different characters and settings has also been part of this process. You had a gingerbread project come home this week. Have fun designing him/her and send it back in for display.

We have been learning so much about Florida and manatees with our Go2Science mission! If you are on Facebook you can check out the Go2Science page to keep up to date with what we have been working on.

During writing time they are starting to orally tell their stories with a beginning, middle, and ending so we will be able to get our stories on paper!

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, making pictures to match the number written, addition and subtraction practice, counting by 10s, number matches with dominoes, subitizing practice, and reading graphs.  Our routines at calendar time include; counting to the calendar number of the day, charting days of the week, weather observations, tallies, money, patterns, solving addition problems, talking about odd and even numbers, and tracking the number of days we have been in school.

Dear Families,

I want to start this by apologizing for not getting a newsletter out lately. My mom is dealing with some health issues and I am her caretaker, so my life has been a little scattered. I also ended up in the emergency room on Monday, with a scare, but all ended well. I am fine. BUT we are keeping it real here at school and have some wonderful activities and growth these past few weeks!

We have been consumed by an author study of Jan Brett. Her stories and illustrations are perfect for this time of the year! Books Read: The Mitten, The Hat, The Umbrella, and The Three Snow Bears.

We have been learning so much about Florida and manatees with our second Go2Science mission! If you are on Facebook you can check out the Go2Science page to keep up to date with what we have been working on.

In math we are working with teen numbers, formation of numbers, making pictures to match the number written, addition and subtraction practice, counting and number recognition through graphing , and continuing our calendar routines.
